Mature, European Larch Removal, Edinburgh
🌳⚠️ Emergency Tree Work – Infested European Larch 🌳⚠️
This mature European Larch was completely dead — brittle, dry, and dangerously overhanging a tennis court, it might look solid from the outside, but it’s hiding a deadly secret — it’s infested with Dendroctonus micans, the Great Spruce Bark Beetle.
These beetles tunnel through the inner bark, weakening the tree from within until it becomes dangerously unstable. primarily infests spruce trees, though it can also attack other conifers like pines and firs, and even occasionally larches like this one.
Felling it from the ground isn’t an option — it’s too close to property and far too unpredictable. So we gear up, climb the tree, and rig it down piece by piece. Every limb is carefully tied off, cut, and lowered using ropes and pulleys, keeping full control from start to finish.
It’s slow, skilled work — but safety always comes first. The beetle may have damaged the tree, but we make sure it comes down the right way.
RS Treecare — safe, professional, and always respecting the trees we work with.
